Position Description:

The Department of Geography, Environment & Geomatics at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenured position in Environmental Geomatics at the Associate or Full Professor level. The anticipated start date for this appointment is July 1, 2026.

We seek an innovative scholar who has teaching and research interests in Environmental Geomatics, enhancing our strengths in problem-focused, policy-relevant, and solutions-oriented teaching and learning. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Geography or a closely related discipline, and will have a proven track record of scholarly contributions at a level commensurate with an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor rank.

Our ideal candidate will complement or diversify our existing departmental strengths in environmental geomatics and applied GIS and/or remote sensing, including but not limited to the following areas of research: geomorphology, water resources, natural hazards, agriculture, sustainability, food systems, environmental conservation, environmental justice, climate risk, or ecosystem restoration. They will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching including experience with course leadership and delivery.

Candidates with research and/or teaching experience that includes innovative applications of UAVs are preferred, as are candidates with a demonstrated ability to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects and disseminate knowledge to multiple audiences.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding research portfolio, demonstrated success in mentoring students at various levels, and experience and capacity for innovation in experiential education, community-engaged learning and/or inclusive pedagogy, along with a strong service record, the ability to lead independent research programs, and a proven record of success in securing research funding. They will be expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses and play an active role in developing an expanded curriculum.

The Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics is a vibrant department that prides itself on training students to help solve complex environmental problems. We have 17 faculty members and four staff, all of whom are committed to delivering high-impact learning opportunities through four undergraduate majors, two in the Bachelor of Science Environmental Science and two in the Bachelor of Arts programs. Position Description:

The Department of Geography, Environment & Geomatics at the University of Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track position in GeoAI at the Assistant Professor level. The anticipated start date for this appointment is January 1, 2027.

We seek an innovative scholar who has teaching and research interests at the intersection of geospatial analysis and artificial intelligence, enhancing our strengths in problem-focused, policy-relevant, and solutions-oriented teaching and learning.

The successful candidate is expected to teach existing undergraduate and graduate courses and develop one or more courses drawing on their expertise, establish an externally funded research program and recruit graduate students. Applicants must hold a PhD in Geography or cognate discipline, or a PhD that demonstrates significant interdisciplinary training including geographic methods, theory and approaches.

Our ideal candidate will:

Have a proven research track record appropriate to their career stage and a demonstrated ability and willingness to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects.

Critically engage with AI and be able to incorporate ethical considerations into teaching and research.

Be committed to excellence in teaching and articulate pedagogical approaches appropriate for different modalities, class formats and student levels.

Diversify or complement existing strengths in the department including but not limited to the following:

  • GeoAI for health: e.g., OneHealth, spatial dynamics of mental health, environmental health, or social determinants of health
  • GeoAI for justice: e.g., criminology, environmental and racial justice, community safety, or geospatial intelligence
  • GeoAI for environment: e.g. natural hazards, natural resource management, environmental conservation, monitoring, climate risk, agriculture, food systems, water resources or geomorphology

Position overview:

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada invites applications for a Research Assistant position in remote sensing for agricultural research and plant assessment. The successful candidate will support projects using ground-based and aerial imaging technologies for crop monitoring, digital phenotyping, and data analysis.

The role also involves coordinating remote sensing data collection, performing digital image analysis and basic statistical analysis, and contributing to research reports, publications, and presentations.
