The CRSS-SCT Conferences & Publications Working Group (WG3) is excited to announce the opportunity for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals or organizations to take the lead in organizing Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing (CSRS) 2025. Proposals from Chapters or groups from the Remote Sensing Community to host or co-host CSRS 2025 are encouraged.
About CSRS:
The Canadian Symposium of Remote Sensing (CSRS) is an annual event in Canada focused on remote sensing and geospatial technology. With our 45th symposium set to be held in Halifax, we have a rich history of bringing together scientists, researchers, professionals, and students to discuss the latest advancements and foster collaborations in this dynamic field. CSRS is a leading platform in Canada for the exchange of knowledge and research in remote sensing and geospatial technology. To best serve the geographically diverse Canadian Remote Sensing community, CSRS has been held in a different region of the country each year (CSRS 2023 in Yellowknife, ICAG-CSRS 2022 in Quebec City, etc)
The Opportunity:
By organizing the symposium, you can:
- Showcase your leadership and organizational skills on a national stage.
- Shape the symposium’s theme, program, and activities.
- Connect with experts and enthusiasts in the remote sensing field.
- Promote your institution, organization, or city as a hub for remote sensing excellence.
Responsibilities:
To help the organizers, WG3 has created guidelines for the symposia, which can be found here. As an organizer team, your responsibilities include:
- Planning and coordinating the symposium’s logistics and program.
- Identifying keynote speakers and presenters.
- Managing the peer-review of extended abstracts.
- Shaping the thematic sessions.
- Engaging partnerships and exhibitors.
- Managing registrations and finances.
- Ensuring a smooth and successful symposium.
How to Apply:
If you are interested in organizing CSRS 2025, please submit a two-page proposal outlining your vision for the event. Your proposal should include details on the proposed location, proposed conference chair or co-chairs, co-host event if any, potential collaborators, and your team’s qualifications as conference or workshop organizer.
Please send your proposals to admin@crss-sct.ca by December 20, 2023.
Selection Process:
WG3 will conduct a preliminary evaluation of all proposals received in early January. The Working Group reserves the right to request additional information, if deemed necessary, to clarify any aspect of the proposal as received. WG3 will make a recommendation to the CRSS-SCT Executive for approval. The successful group will be contacted immediately following the approval in February 2024. Then, WG3 will work with the successful group to start planning CSRS 2025:
- To secure a suitable venue,
- To solicit support from the local community (including financial support as well as local contributions to the technical program, workshops);
- To prepare a budget giving – ‘Value for money’ (acceptable cost for delegates including symposium registration and accommodation; highest return for CRSS-SCT and co-host),
- To create a Technical Program committee,
- To develop a conference theme,
- To develop a social program.
