From July 4 to 11, 2026, the Canadian Remote Sensing Society – Société canadienne de télédétection (CRSS-SCT) had the honour of hosting the international remote sensing and photogrammetry community in Toronto for the XXV ISPRS Congress and the 47th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing.
It marked the first ISPRS Congress held in Canada since Ottawa in 1972 and brought together 2,084 participants from 93 countries.

Highlights from the Week
The Congress featured an inspiring Opening Ceremony, world-class keynote presentations, a pre-congress Summer School, poster and technical sessions, a memorable gala dinner at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and performances by speed painter Jessica and pianist Dr. Mohamed Mostafa.
The CRSS-SCT Student Chapter also led a Mapathon, creating another opportunity for students and participants to collaborate and engage with applied geospatial work.
Celebrating the CRSS-SCT Community
The week was also an important moment for recognizing members of our community.
Dr. Ahmed Shaker was elected Secretary General of ISPRS, while Songnian Li was elected to the ISPRS Financial Commission and Costas Armenakis to the ISPRS Fellows Committee.
CRSS-SCT also celebrated award recipients including Dr. Saeid Homayouni, recipient of the CRSS-SCT Silver Medal, and Dr. Monique Bernier, recipient of the Val Shaw Award, alongside recipients of the Best MSc and PhD Thesis Awards, journal paper awards, and student presentation awards.
Bringing Our Members Together
During the CRSS-SCT Members’ Meeting, President Dr. Shabnam Jabari and Secretary Dr. Yuhong He presented awards, gathered feedback from members, and introduced the Society’s sustaining membership initiative.
Associate Editors of the Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing also met during the Congress to discuss the future direction of the journal.
