Student Chapters Deputy Director: Daniel Almuina Pica

Voir la biographie

Daniel Almuina Pica is a MASc graduate from the Department of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. Daniel conducted research at the Remote Sensing Innovation Laboratory (RSIL), collaborating with GHGSat, the European Space Agency (ESA) and NSERC on satellite based greenhouse gas monitoring missions. He also holds a Bachelors in Physics, Applied Geomatics and Geography from the University of Guelph.

His masters thesis focused on optical sensor data fusion, combining different sensor types to continuously monitor fugitive methane emissions in the wastewater and natural gas sectors. His specializations are in Hyperspectral satellite imagery, InSAR processing, 3D reconstruction and machine vision.

Daniel currently serves as the Deputy Director of the CRSS-SCT Student Branch, and he is excited to learn, connect and build community within the remote sensing and geomatics network in Canada and throughout the globe.

Student Chapters Event Coordinator: Masoud Babadi Ataabadi

Voir la biographie

Masoud Babadi Ataabadi is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography and Planning at Queen’s University, where he conducts research in the Laboratory of Geographic Information and Spatial Analysis (LAGISA). His doctoral work focuses on satellite time series reconstruction using advanced deep learning methods, with applications in environmental monitoring and Earth observation.
Masoud holds a Bachelor’s degree in Surveying Engineering and a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing Engineering. His research interests include geospatial analysis, remote sensing time series modeling and prediction, LiDAR data processing, and machine learning applications for land cover and environmental change.
He currently serves as the Event Coordinator for the Canadian Remote Sensing Society’s Student Chapter. In this role, he leads the planning and delivery of chapter events that support professional development, networking, and knowledge exchange among early career members.

Student Chapters Outreach and Engagement Coordinator: Simin Ramani

Voir la biographie

Hi everyone! I’m Simin, a PhD candidate in Environmental Science at Western Sydney University, working at the intersection of remote sensing, LiDAR, fire ecology, and climate impacts on forests. My research uses LiDAR and spatial data to understand how drought and fire affect forest structure and recovery, with a focus on translating science into practical insights for land and fire management.
I’m particularly passionate about science communication, student engagement, and building inclusive research communities, especially for international students and early-career researchers navigating academia and industry. Through the Student Chapter, I’m excited to help increase visibility, share student stories, and create accessible pathways for students to connect with professional networks, opportunities, and each other.
I’m looking forward to working with the team to support CRSS-SCT outreach and student-focused initiatives in the lead-up to ISPRS 2026 and beyond.

Student Chapters Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Coordinator: Deepak Satheesan

Chapitre CRSS-Kootenay
